Having a personalised home office space can really boost your productivity and help you tick all the boxes on your to-do list in no time. Whether you are working from home for a corporate job, running a side-hustle, or simply need a place to focus, having a dedicated office space can make a big difference. Increase in concentration, productivity, inspiration, sense of well-being and relaxation, the positive aspects of creating a custom work space at home are numerous.
When I first started working on Suite.Minded, I was working from my bed or couch, sitting in quite uncomfortable positions. It was not the ideal environment to build and develop a business. Then, a few months ago, I decided to create a dedicated space in my living room so I can separate work and personal life. And it made a massive difference in the way I work and in my productivity. I live in a small one-bedroom apartment and all I did was invest in a small computer desk, an office chair and table lamp for less than $200. I added some photos of friends and family on my wall for a more personalised space and I love it.
Creating a home office space that represents you and your personality doesn’t have to be expensive. All you really need is a desk, a chair, and a bookcase or display unit for storage if needed. Surround yourself with photos, pieces of art or any item that means something to you to bring a sense of comfort, calm and relaxation.
To give you some inspiration, I have created 5 home office ideas all under $800. Click on the images or links to have direct access to vendors’ websites.

1/ Coastal home office
This coastal home office setup is simple yet functional and uses a lot of natural materials and fabrics. The desk, shelving unit and table lamp are in bamboo, the armchair is in rattan, and the plant pot is in seagrass. The pale blue woven rug adds to the overall beachy feeling and brings warmth. This coastal design can be recreated for $756.

2/ Scandinavian home office
This Scandinavian home office respects the main features of Scandinavian interior design style as it is minimalist, functional and in a simple colour palette. The white cladding on the wall brings a touch of warmth but also contributes to the brightness of the design. If you don’t have a lot of natural light in your room, I recommend adding a floor lamp or table lamp. Comfort, cosiness and warmth are brought by the textured rug and the faux-fur cushion. Don’t hesitate to add pops of colour with home décor pieces, art, or a throw blanket like in this design. Get this setup at home for under $700.

3/ Contemporary home office
This contemporary home office is in black with brass and pink accents. The black and rattan desk is a beautiful piece of furniture and is the focal point of this design. The rug brings a touch of colour with some dusty blue, pink and cream. The overall design is cohesive and balanced, all for under $800.
4/ Modern home office
This home office setup is in a modern style. My favourite part is the black desk with subtle brass accents that are also present in the white swivel chair and desk lamp. The glass shelving unit adds storage space. This design costs less than $700, not including the small décor accessories.
Black desk - My Deal - $169
Cream swivel chair - Target - $139

5/ Industrial home office
This rather simple industrial design is in a black and brown colour scheme. The main focal point is clearly this beautiful faux cowhide rug with black, brown and silver accents. The faux brown leather desk chair adds to the overall industrial feel, along with the glass and metal shelving unit. You can recreate this setup at home for about $650, without the small décor items.
