I love the beach. To me, it’s synonym of escape and holidays. I can’t count the number of days I wake up, hoping to hear the waves crashing and let the fresh air from the sea fill my living room. It is one of my dreams to have an apartment with sea-view instead of building-view.

Well good news! If you’re like me, there are tips you can use to give your interior a coastal look, so you feel on holidays every day. And you don’t even have to break the bank, or move.

And if you already live close to the coast (lucky you), you can also use these budget-friendly tips if you want to match your interior style with outside.

Transforming your interior into a beach haven doesn’t have to cost you all your savings. I have gathered for you a list of affordable furniture and home décor accessories to make your home look like a beach cottage.

Furniture

A coastal interior design style is predominantly associated with natural materials such as pale wood, bamboo, driftwood, wicker or rattan, with the purpose to bring the charm of the outside indoors.

Below is a selection of affordable coastal furniture from our favorite brands.

Accessories

If you have a rather tight budget for your interior decorating, simply add some coastal-looking home décor accessories. See below for budget-friendly items that will definitely spruce up your home.

  • Under $100

  • Under $50

If you are planning a weekend on the coast, take a walk on the beach and pick up some seashells that you can place in a glass bowl or vase. You can also try to look for nice pieces of driftwood that you can then use as home décor on a console table or sideboard.

Soft Furnishings

Regarding your soft furnishings such as pillows, throw blankets, sheets, etc... it is common to use natural fabrics to achieve a coastal look. You will then see a lot of linen, jute, organic cotton, or hemp.

If you feel like your couch or armchair doesn't fit in a coastal-looking interior but you can’t afford to buy a brand new one, you might want to consider slipcovers. They are amazing solutions to completely transform your furniture affordably. And they are also easy to remove and clean as you need, perfect if you have kids or pets.

Their price varies depending on the type of your sofa or armchair, however they remain budget-friendly options to redecorate your home.

Wallpaper

Why not invest in peel and stick wallpapers in order to transform your interior? They are an affordable home decorating solution and ideal if you are renting. Here are some of our favourite ones to give your home a coastal look.

Paint Colour

If your budget allows you to, you should consider repainting your interior. Although it can be pricey, it will definitely transform the vibe of your interior.

A coastal interior is usually synonym of a two-colour theme with neutral and blue hues to match with the landscape. If you are feeling audacious and looking to completely change your interior, you could paint your walls in a bright or warm white, or a sky-blue shade.

Blue is a very versatile colour and will give calming and relaxing vibes to your space. Check the blue paint colours I have selected below to give you some inspiration.

This Sea Breeze Half from Dulux would look amazing in a bathroom or bedroom, paired with a fresh white such as Lexicon Quarter from Dulux.

This next paint colour is Ocean Current by Dulux. I love how it is used as a feature colour on the ceiling to bring character to the room. It is the first thing your eye sees when entering the room and it really captivates your attention. Ideally paired with a crisp white like Vivid White by Dulux to brighten up the space.

Opting for deeper shades of blue can create drama and bring character and energy to a room. Well suited in smaller rooms such as hallways and entryways. Take a look at this stunning Old Navy blue by Benjamin Moore. I love how the vibrant deep blue combined with a pure white really illuminates the space.
